Ok OPPONAUTS, assemble! Tonight, I lost control around a turn in my FR-S and hit a square median on a divided highway. Amazingly, I survived without hitting anyone, and the car started right back up. No new noises, no lamp indicators, no low tire pressure, no apparent alignment issues, no new rattles, and I drove it another 20 miles, some of which at 70 mph on the highway.
So, the question, should I take it in to get looked at or should I just be thankful that God gave me a by. Here are some pictures of the only damage I could find. The passenger side tires hit the median first (wheels cut into the tires a little, minor scuff on front wheel, no scuffs on back wheel), but the driver side tires look absolutely brand new.

Keep rollin unless you otice something. Have a look underneath it in daylight if possible.

Alignment.

I would get it looked at regardless. Did the wheel jerk at all? Suspension/steering components should be looked at.

Alignment on these is garbage from the factory, so I'd say this is the perfect excuse to get it aligned (though the rear is non adjustable)

If it starts acting up take it in if not give it a once over in better light.

My AMG tried to kill me once (OK more than once) and it was the passenger tires hitting the center median that ultimately stopped the spin. Keep in mind that I'm running 245/30 up front and 275-35 in the back. Not much sidewall there. I had a few scuffs like yours but no other issues.
Keep a close eye on it. You may want to check your lug nuts to make sure they're not jammed on there. Also look for stress cracks on the wheels.

That sucks. Sorry about your ride. Assuming you're going to get it repaired that wheel is probably $300+ to replace. For the paint and bodywork make sure you find a shop that will just spot paint it, don't buy any claims they need to repaint the whole front section. I'd get it checked, especially if there is tire damage.

Before it starts to eat through tires, have it checked by a shop for the alignment, and any obvious underneath signs that a simple on the ground visual won't cover.
Newer cars have a nasty habit of bending and breaking things that aren't apparent to the driver or the naked eye.
Expensive things.

Well, the car actually jumped the median and went air-born, so when I initially hit (estimated 25-30mph, as the car stopped very shortly after I landed in the other direction of traffic), the wheel probably jerked, but I don't remember because everything jerked. I was counter steering to try to get the car under control, so I don't think the wheels went up against the steering locks. I definitely am going to get the car on the ramps in the morning in daylight and see if anything caught on the median.

Get it aligned to check for the suspension components to be in spec. It also presents the opportunity to change your alignment to something a little more aggressive to suit your driving style.
Keep an eye on the sidewall of the tire that impacted the curb, it may take a little while for a bulge to appear, when/if one does appear put your spare on and get new tire(s).
Once you can get the car in the air a bit make sure you check that nothing got knocked loose on your undercarriage and examine for any other damage that may have been done while hopping the curb. Hopefully you got away with one, I've seen cars that needed a full suspension rebuild from smashing into a curb before.

I was just going to say, there's a huge chance his alignment is going to be off.

You got lucky man. I agree with what others are saying; get it checked out, especially the alignment. You don't want to keep driving and realize later something is screwed up after it's too late.
Also- just out of curiosity is that one of the 10 year special edition ones? It could just be the pictures but it almost looks like that special paint.

Yeah, 10-series. The Subaru dealer was an hour away, and the 10-series offered most of the extras that the BRZ Limited has.

as someone thats had two too many run ins with curbs, get it looked at, you never know, could have a crack in a cast knuckle or suspension arm, might feel fine now, but the next time you push your car hard, it might make you spin out and you might not be so lucky next time

Alignment. That fast into a median, if you hit anything hard like a curb or bump in pavement, is a ton of force into your wheels and suspension.

That's cool! I've never seen one in person but I want to see what the paint looks like. Unfortunately it'll be (probably) more expensive to get that bumper fixed and repainted because of that though :(

Whatever happens; DO NOT CHECK THE ALIGNMENT

The OP is obviously free to do as he pleases, but for that level of damage I wouldn't worry about actually replacing that wheel. It's gonna get curbed again. Inspect it for *real* damage like cracks (or have a qualified wheel repair shop do so) and as long as the wheel's structural integrity hasn't been compromised, have it repaired, bolt it back on and live happily ever after.
If the car is a daily driver, little scratches, dings and curbing of the wheels SUCK... but they happen. First time is always the hardest. I curbed a wheel on my GT500 and promptly had it at the shop replacing the wheel. About 3 or 4 months later, guess which wheel got slightly curbed going through a very narrow drive thru? Yeah. Spent, I think, around $100 getting it repaired and never looked back.

The first curbing is always the hardest, but you can be like us offroad guys now! All the little dings and rock rash tell stories!
